Templatizing Link Requests Doesn’t Matter Without Targeting
The purpose of outsourced SEO isn’t to JUST have cheaper costs, it’s also to make sure your folks on-site aren’t driven crazy by mundane and repetitive tasks. That said, the job of your outsourced SEO is ‘TO DO’ and NOT TO THINK – Thinking is your job.
I received some link exchange spam today, and was really surprised at how many points outsourced SEO’s could improve at, and if they did, their success rate would go up phenomenally. Here it is:

The Better Way of Going About It
Why not try the following simple tweaks to getting such link requests a higher success rate?
- Research an exact match niche, or a related niche before emailing a webmaster. Learn from the best
- Client company, please give your outsourced party the right template
- Personalize your email or get flagged as spam.
- Don’t even ask for a link exchange – Ask for a review or something similar instead
- Keep track of your link requests and whether they were approved.
- Call high quality link prospects instead of emailing them out of the blue.
- Don’t have your outsourced party call the link prospect. Call them yourself!

I never knew alot about that, I learned alot
Hey Dev,
You really drive home the point that there is no magic bullet or formula to SEO and link building requests in particular. Just a bit of common sense, some hard work and organization.
The personal touch of speaking to someone directly really does go a long way and it’s a hell of a lot better than spammy emails!
Good post and made aware of it for visitors like me.
I also received that kind of link exchange message. And you’re right, Dev. They should learn at least to improve their messages so it will not leave us an annoying feeling.
We get junk e-mails like this all the time, too. It does little to convince us to do anything besides delete them. Now, if they picked up the phone and called, we just might consider it (if it was a good fit for our site).
What site owners need to remember (and what we tell our clients) is that getting links isn’t just getting links, it’s relationship building. And you can’t build a relationship on an e-mail that could just as easily be mistaken for spam.
better then sending email I think using Twitter, this invitation I think more quicker and more visible, goes to “direct person who is in charge with the blog, and once it is not approved we could move to other person.and depends on what we post on twitter I think ,more informative and not monotone our post tweet is ,more respect we could get to “request link exchange
Hey, I justed wanted to give you a compliment on your blog, keep up the great work. I will be back to check it out in the near future.
