Hi Dev,
thanks for this great site. After struggeling sensless with seo technics for weeks i found your site by accident. I got the idea, scraped my blinkers and realised that company sport is very common in my region. So i joined the organisation for company sports and developed a registry site for them. Several sites of sport groups are linking to this site and this site links to mine.
This is only the first step….behind every sports group is a company….and talking people will be aided…

Community groups, charities and local government can be a good way of creating additional links, however it depends on your business. If all else fails, advertising offline has its advantages.

Helping your local school with prize donations, sports sponsorships, school supplies, even visiting a classroom to discuss your business – for a relatively small investment you can make a positive difference as well as gain links. Almost every school booster club has inexpensive sponsorship opportunities that almost any local business can leverage for links – almost every one has a web page! Just Google your local high school. A lot of parents blog about their kids activities. A lot of the kids have MySpace and Facebook pages. Don’t be afraid to ask! In addition, don’t be afraid to ask the recipients of your contributions for a review in Yelp or Google.

I recently came across your blog and am very impressed. Some local offline link strategies which one can follow are sponsoring or being part of local events (they will generally have a wiki or a site for promotion). Being part of local groups and helping them create web presence by developing simple websites for them (benefits them as well as us)
